18/05/2009
Robert's unusual image of a Grey Seal taken in the Scilly Isles was voted best UK Image by a panel of judges including Colin Doeg, Charles Hood, Alex Mustard, and Simon Rogerson.

Excerpt from Dive Magazine .... see link below for more details:

In the Apeks British category, it was a close-run thing between Malcolm Nobbs' arresting portrait of a pike and Rob Bailey's exultant grey seal taken in the Scilly IslesĀ§, which was the eventual choice for first place. The judges felt that the sheer joy and personality of the image marked it out as something truly special - a true ambassador for UK diving.

Colin Doeg said, 'that the behaviour has been seen before but never captured'.

The picture was taken with Nikon D200, Nikkor 20mm f2.8 lens, Sea & Sea Housing, two Inon Z240 strobes at a depth of 2 meters.

Robert prefers to do most of his photography in shallow waters.

He is more than delighted to have been selected this year's winner of this prestigous award.
